Since February 2018 Span Arts have been running monthly arts and technology sessions for young people at our offices in Narberth.
Clwb Digi was set up initially to cater for 8 – 12 year olds and has introduced young people to a number of different activities ranging from animation, app making, electric painting and live looping.
The series kicked off with attendees taking part in the Span Arts animation competition to create an ident for Span Digidol. The winning animations appear in this short film:
The sessions have been held from 10am to 1pm on Saturday mornings.
Participant feedback from recent sessions has stated:
“It was fun and challenging to do.”
“Very entertaining and easy to follow.”
“Got to do what you wanted to do in the activity.”
Clwb Digi was developed through Span Arts’ Digidol project funded by LEADER and the Arts Council of Wales which was set up to explore new ways in which digital technology can be used creatively to increase connectivity and reduce loneliness and social isolation.
Clwb Digi is one of ten pilot projects that Span Digidol has been testing since the project began in May 2018 and has been exceptionally well received – 100% of Clwb digi members have thought workshops to date have been good or excellent. 80% have been introduced to something new and learnt a new skill and 75% of Clwb Digi members felt more positive about themselves and have developed their confidence.
Though the Digidol project comes to an end in June 2020, in March 2020 Span is delighted to have been able to appoint Pip Lewis as our new Clwb Digi Project Manager. Pip will be running our new project Clwb Digi Cares – an intergenerational project connecting children with isolated and older people through creative technology experiences. Clwb Digi Cares is supported by West Wales is Kind administered by Pembrokeshire Association for Volunteers (PAVS).
