Swyn (the Welsh word for “spell” or “charm”) is an atmospheric, multi-sensory experience that honours the women and the work that came before us. Through a powerful fusion of contemporary circus, acrobatic dance, bilingual storytelling, and original song, this performance evokes themes of memory, ancestry, and belonging. The show is performed on an outdoor aerial rig, surrounded by symbolic props—pails of water, large pots of flowers—and accompanied by a bespoke soundtrack that draws the audience into a world both timeless and immediate.
Inspired by the Pembrokeshire coastline, Celtic heritage, and the artists’ own lived experiences, Swyn explores the rituals of rural life and the rhythms of nature. It celebrates seasonality and ceremony, offering a quiet, profound reflection on the relationship between land, labour, and the female body.
The show has been created by Collective Flight Syrcas – a collaboration between three Pembrokeshire-based artists, Hannah, Meg and Emma – who met through a shared love of circus and a deep connection to the rural landscape of West Wales. Their collective was born out of a desire to create performance that feels both personal and political, rooted in local culture yet resonating with universal themes. Their work brings together movement, voice, and visual storytelling to create something truly unique and heartfelt.
Audiences are encouraged to bring a blanket or a camping chair, dress for the weather, and settle into the beautiful surroundings of Colby’s meadow for this outdoor performance. Whether you’re a circus enthusiast, a lover of dance, or simply seeking something special in nature, Swyn promises to be a soulful and stirring afternoon for all ages.
