Queer Creations

SPAN is looking for workshop ideas delivered by local Queer creatives.

SPAN has £1,500 to support 3 x LGBTQ+ workshops in Pembrokeshire.

There will be £500 each available to three artists whose workshop will respond to the theme of Emergence.

EMERGENCE is the theme of our new season of Queer Creations celebrating solidarity, unity, togetherness and the return of the light.

Our three workshops will each reflect the building theme of Emergence as described in the subtitles below:

EMERGENCE: The Returning of the Light.

EMERGENCE: Rising Embers

EMERGENCE: Tending the hearth fire.

Through participatory, community-focused sessions, you’ll explore new ideas, build confidence, and experience the joy of creating together.

Responses and creations will then form part of a culminative event in March/April.

What we are looking for:

It must meet SPAN’s aim of using the arts as a vehicle for social change. This means the workshops must have some sort of social impact on the people engaged.

The workshops must be artist-led and creative.

The lead creative must be part of the LGBTQ+ community.

It can be any artform: visual arts, digital arts, written word, music etc.

They must be community-focused; the idea must engage with the people of Pembrokeshire.

The workshops do not have to be aimed solely at Queer audience and participants, but they can be if you feel that is important to the idea.

They must take place in accessible locations in Pembrokeshire (this could also be outdoors or online).

The workshops must take place in February/March 2026

We would welcome ideas that come from LGBTQ+ creatives from the Global Majority community and/or creatives who are Disabled

To respond to the Call Out, please send the following information to info@span-arts.org.uk by 11th January 2026

A brief summary of the workshop:

Tell us what it is that you want to do and why.

Let us know if you have an idea of where it could take place or who you want to engage with.

Budget:

Let us know what sort of costs would be involved and how you would spend the £500. For example, this would need to include artist fee, venue costs and materials.

Be realistic in your ambitions, this is a small budget for a single workshop.

Marketing costs, production support, and some tech costs can be separately supported through SPAN.

Timescale:

Let us know when you think the workshop could take place.

Support:

SPAN can help with producing and organising the workshop. Let us know what sort of support you think you may need to make it happen.

How will we decide which workshops to support?

All the responses will be shared with our Queer programming group, this is a group of LGBTQ+ artist and community members who support SPAN in their Queer programming. Together with the SPAN team, the group will decide which workshops to support.

SPAN Arts works to create platforms for diverse voices in our community. As a rural area, true diversity in West Wales can sometimes be difficult to see. In reality, Pembrokeshire is diverse physically, culturally, psychologically, and sexually. Without the central gathering points of major urban areas, these communities often remain hidden from view and absent from our wider cultural life. This invisibility can lead to a lack of understanding in the broader community and risks losing the cultural exchange that enriches us all.

This project is supported by a Welsh Government Culture Grant Scheme Grant, administered by Adferiad, to develop new LGBTQ+-led creative programmes in Pembrokeshire. The events, projects, and activities funded through this support have been designed and approved by a group of LGBTQ+ artists and community members. If you are interested in supporting this work, please email director@span-arts.org.uk. Alongside these projects, we are also seeking new ideas through the open call below.
