Love Stories to Nature

SPAN Arts is commissioning new work for our Love Stories to Nature project and invites artists and creative practitioners to submit their ideas. The commissioned work will be created specifically for and in collaboration with SPAN Arts. Artwork by Emma Baker All ideas need to respond in some way to the prompt of The Environment. What do we mean by Environment? We embrace this word in its widest possible context: It could be inspired by or in response to our natural and built physical environment be that urban or rural, mountains or coast, fields, or forests. It could be macro or micro, from the global context to microbiology It could be the climate emergency we are all facing, from a global challenge to personal everyday actions It could be our relationship to the environment, its importance, impact or value on a personal, community or societal scale. Theatr Soffa

Theatr Soffa is an online community theatre company presenting live-streamed community performances through zoom in both English and Welsh. It was initially conceived by SPAN as a creative way to connect rurally isolated and housebound individuals across Pembrokeshire, by using the arts and innovative use of technology. To date we have produced and presented five live-streamed community productions in both English and Welsh whilst we have been living under lockdown conditions. In the earliest stages of lockdown Span simultaneously staged Welsh and English language productions of the classic Welsh drama, Under Milk Wood with a community cast of over forty people.  The first performance, in partnership with Cered and Menter Iaith Sir Benfro was of Dan Y Wenallt a translation of Dylan Thomas’s original text by T. James Jones.  The English version was performed the following evening. Watch the fantastic performances from Theatr Soffa.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6al9fnU-Yhs Below are two screenings, both with Welsh subtitles and the second with a BSL interpreter. https://vimeo.com/829007447 If you would like to view the footage with English subtitles. Sing

Everyone Cân Sing! Join Cat's friendly group of online singers. Singing is so good for us. All welcome. Fortnightly singing workshops led by Natural Voice Practitioner Catriona Fothergill, the group is friendly and open to all abilities and interests. Since March 2020 when the Covid pandemic hit, SPAN’s singing group has been singing online rather at SPAN. Singers from across Pembrokeshire have been coming together online to share in the uplifting benefits of singing, led by the fabulous natural voice practitioner Catriona Fothergill. “We know that singing helps us to feel good and connect with each other. It makes us breathe deeply and stops our anxious thoughts while we enjoy singing and listening to harmonies.” Says choir leader Cat Fothergill The project has provided vital support and connection and helped to improve people’s wellbeing at this most difficult time. Singers have found the experience “Stimulating, connecting and heart-warming” with “with just the right mix of warm up, chat and song.” Get Involved: Book here to join our online Can Sing classes. Every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 7pm.
