Span Arts are absolutely delighted to be teaming up with Theatr Gwaun to launch the Laughing Dragon Cabaret. This is Span Arts’ Comedy club re-imagined, re-invigorated and re-located.

Laughing Dragon Cabaret will take place in the 1920’s theatre space of Theatr Gwaun with a fresh and fine set of acts.

The event is hosted by Theatr Gwaun and Span Arts and was pulled together with the help of local poet and comic Clare Ferguson-Walker, whose knowledge and expertise of the comic scene is second to none. A great opportunity to bellow like a dragon with laughter! A show not to be missed.

Headlining our first show is the award-winning stand-up comedian Andrew O’Neill. “Absolutely hilarious” (Neil Gaiman), “one of the funniest comedians on the circuit” (TimeOut) who “creates near-constant laughter (List). His distinctive voice and alternative credentials have set him apart and allowed him to carve out a unique place in the comedy world. He has performed in over a dozen different countries and is at home performing to rowdy weekend comedy clubs as much as to his own cult following. He is no stranger to Welsh audiences with a highly acclaimed act to support Amanda Palmer, last year at the Lyric in Carmarthen.

O’Neill has written and toured a shit-tonne of solo comedy shows, including Occult Comedian, Winston Churchill Was Jack the Ripper, MINDSPIDERS, Alternative, Andrew O’Neill is Easily Distracted and the current Andrew O’Neill’s Black Magick Fun Hour. His TV credits include Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Saxondale, 50 Years Of Rock Excess, The Blame Game, Spicks and Specks and Good News Week. His own Radio 4 stand-up show Pharmacist Baffler won an award.

Laughing Dragon also host acts from Johnny FluffyPunk, Louis Burgess and Clare Ferguson-Walker.

Johnny Fluffy Punk brings an acute social observation, intricate humour, surreal fantasy and sharp irony (The Independent) to the stage. Musical Louis Burgess entertains with a rip-roaring concoction of singing, rapping, sampling, beatboxing, strumming!

Award winning poet, stand up and compere Clare Ferguson-Walker will host the evening as MC with her  “Razor sharp wit and a unique take on life” (The Metro). Her first solo Edinburgh show got two 5-star reviews and is still touring and she regularly supports John Cooper Clarke.
